Sturdy Wooden Construction Ensures Lasting Play

The Multi-Activity Table is made of lightweight yet sturdy wooden particle board. The green tabletop surface is made of two removable, double-sided plyboard pieces. Each piece has a small hole to grip for easy removal.

In addition to being an environmentally friendly choice, the table’s materials are durable enough for even the most rambunctious child. With safety in mind, the table’s edges and corners are sanded and rounded to protect kids.

Assembly and Setup

Assembling the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Multi-Activity Table took our testers approximately one hour to
complete. The instructions are easy to understand, with large illustrations and light text offering guidance where necessary. While a single adult can manage the table’s assembly alone, it helps to have two adults to assemble some of the larger sections.

Despite the relatively straightforward nature of assembly, our testers did encounter some issues. Some of the pre-drilled holes and pre-cut pieces were challenging to align, requiring strong hands to force into place.

When assembly is complete, the drawer can be difficult to open and close. However, once assembled, the table provides a broad, stable area that offers ample play space.

A Middle School Teacher TOP 100 REVIEWER…Great Train Table for Better Price…

My two-year-old daughter was playing with her trains on the dining room floor before we got this table. We were all constantly stepping on pieces, having to redo the track layout, etc. Now she can play for quite a while without wreaking “butt-zilla” havoc by sitting on everything.

She does sometimes still sit on the table next to the track, but the table is sturdy enough to hold her 30 lbs. just fine. And when she takes the track apart, at least the pieces are enclosed rather than being scattered all over the floor.

No need to buy the brand name (Thomas) tables…this one is so much less expensive and still solid. The drawer is also quite deep and long to store the rest of her train set accessories. We have several Melissa and Doug wooden toys and so far we’ve had no construction issues with them. With that said, there was one screw through one of the beams that hold the table top up that never really went in to the table edge. Like I said, though, it still holds plenty of weight.

Once she outgrows the train phase I’m sure she will still enjoy using clay, a dollhouse, or something else on it.

Note that it is quite large–about 48″ x 32″–so don’t get it if you don’t have room for it. We chose this one to accomodate her train set. Because it is so large we have it away from the wall so our daughter can walk around it on all sides. As she gets taller/able to reach farther (she’s currently about 35″), we’ll be able to put the long side up against a wall to save some floor space.

We gave it four stars instead of five because the drawer did not fit perfectly in the middle of the slot for it, nor does it sit flush against the table. It’s really a minor inconvenience, especially for the price, but it’s still fair to note that this isn’t the highest quality piece of furniture out there.

We bought it to use as a table for a dollhouse and also for puzzles, games, blocks, etc. We have an infant and toddler and we needed a way to keep small part toddler toys out of the infant’s reach. It’s a great height for our 2 1/2 year old. We have a large dollhouse on one side and there’s still plenty of room for small puzzles and other toys and play on the other side. The lip on the edge is perfect to catch toys from rolling off the edge – and also keep our toddler from dragging the dollhouse onto the floor. The underneath is open, so I slid a few baskets of toys on both sides and it’s all of a sudden doing double duty. The drawer is an ok size. I wish it was the entire length of one side – it seems a waste of space not to have it for storage. I was able to put two of our Melissa and Doug magnetic dress up doll trays with all the accessories inside. There’s still plenty of room for more in it, but it’s not large enough for puzzle boxes or board games and it’s really too large for lots of small toys. Once I have it a while I’m sure I’ll come up with a better use for it.

The top edges are all sanded and rounded off so no risk of bumping heads. There are also very small crevices on the sides where the table top fits on, but we’ve had no issue with toys getting stuck – the gap is probably less than a 1/4 inch.

Overall, very pleased. We also considered the Pottery Barn activity table, but at half the price, this is really a steal. Another home run for Melissa and Doug!
