Open Apology To Adult Fans of Lego For Using The Term “LEGOs” To Promote The BOX4BLOX

We are the inventors of the BOX4BLOX, an innovative sorter and storage box for organizing Lego bricks and parts by size, that works by grading Lego bricks through a series of grids, similarly to how a coin sorter sorts coins.

The purpose of this post is to provide an apology and explanation to Lego enthusiasts and adult fans of Lego that take umbrage against our use of the term “Legos” instead of the term “Lego” on our web site.

As the inventors of the BOX4BLOX and parents of four young children living in New Zealand, it was not until we moved our manufacturing operation to the United States and started promoting the  BOX4BLOX online that we were introduced to the size and, what can only be called, the “passion” of the Adult Fan of Lego community towards these popular colorful plastic bricks.

You see, the reason we are making this apology is that we receive a lot of email communication from disgruntled Lego fans, and especially adult fans of Lego, complaining about the use of the word “Legos” in the online promotion of our BOX4BLOX invention.

In explanation to those of you that are not aware, to adult fans of Lego, or AFOLers as they are called, the word “Legos” is like “a four letter word”.  The word “AFOLer” being a  comparative adjective for the acronym made from the term, Adult Fan of Lego (AFOL).

In further explanation, the archetypal AFOLer can be described as an Lego enthusiast aged over 18 years old that is absolutely passionate about Lego bricks and building their own Lego creations.  In most cases, the average AFOLer is the owner of a huge Lego collection, numbering in the many tens of thousands, and in some cases, hundreds of thousands of Lego pieces.

Here is a video that gives an insight into just how large the Adult Fans of Lego community really is:

The primary reason we include the term Legos in our web site copy, is that BOX4BLOX is now manufactured in the United States, where we market and sell it through Amazon.com, and the term “Legos” is very much a “North American” or, more specifically,  an “American” term.

Here is an explanation by well known American AFOLer, Larry Pieniazek, a self professed Lego addict, on why most Americans use the term Legos, instead of the term Lego.

Because most Americans are descriptivists. The LEGO Group, like other trademark holders, wants LEGO to be treated as an adjective rather than a noun, “LEGO Bricks” or “LEGO sets” but never just “LEGO” by itself. However we pluralize other trademarked things as well… Kleenexes, Fords, etc

Our Official Apology To Adult Fans Of Lego

Please accept our apology for the use of the term “Legos” on our web site.  We can assure you that the only reason we use the term “Legos” on our web site is solely for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes.

The simple fact is that, while we are aware that adult fans of Lego do not like and use the term “legos” themselves, our predominant market for the BOX4BLOX in the United States is Moms and Dads with kids that are sick and tired of Lego mess over the floor.   It just happens these particular Lego fans, in most cases use the word “Legos” to describe their collection of Lego bricks.

So, if you have any idea of how search engine optimization works, it is very important that we position our product in the search engines in front of these potential customers, using both the keyword search terms “Lego” and also “Legos” in our web site copy.

So, for those Lego purists and adult Lego fans, please accept this post as our apology for the occasional use of the word “Legos” on the BOX4BLOX web site.

Why BOX4BLOX Makes Ideal Lego Accessory For Every Lego Enthusiast

I also know that most of you adult fans of Lego, have so many Lego bricks and parts that you would likely need about 50 BOX4BLOX, or more.   We know this, because a lot of AFOLers tell us this, when they contact us complaining about us using the term “legos” on our web site.

However, while this may be true from a Lego storage perspective, one thing we can assure you is that you will find the BOX4BLOX an excellent organizing accessory as a Lego sorter to help you keep you large Lego collections organized and in order.

In verification of this, this is what the guys at popular adult fan of Lego site www.brother-brick.com said about the BOX4BLOX in their product review

“First off, if you aren’t familiar with Box4Blox, it is a series of stacking trays. Each tray has openings in the bottom, much like a sieve. The openings in the trays get smaller as you continue down the stack. This has the effect of sorting your pieces by size.

As my kids have their own collections, I let them use one of the Box4Blox sets. It sorted their pieces by size and made it easier for them to find those small pieces that get lost in among the larger ones. They had a lot of fun with it and I was happy that it worked as advertised.”

“Overall, Box4Blox easily surpassed my expectations. Not only is it a good product for keeping the kids’ bricks sorted, it also has a definite place in the Adult hobby as a pre-sorter. I recommend it.”
